WFTO-Africa

DOMESTIC FAIR TRADE PROJECT

The project also referred to as the “Domestic Fair Trade Project” Funded by Bread for the World started in 2018 with a pilot phase. The project’s overall goal is to contribute to the attainment of Sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) in Kenya and South Africa through implementing awareness campaigns that indirectly contribute to Ending poverty in all its forms everywhere (SDG 1). At the project’s core is the acknowledgment that our aspirations for a sustainable future depend on government policies, new rules for businesses and enterprises, and citizens’ actions. In keeping with this, the project is set out to deliver the following 4 outcomes:-
(i) Increased awareness among consumers in Kenya (Nairobi, Thika) and South Africa (Western Cape) on the positive impact of adopting sustainable consumption and lifestyles;
(ii) Increased stakeholder engagement on sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in learning institutions, public authorities, and private sector levels within the framework of Fair Trade;
(iii) Increased access to fair and sustainably produced products for Kenyan and South African markets and consumers; and
(iv) Strengthen the capacity of WFTO A&ME to provide Fair Trade business solutions for producer organizations in the region and to support project implementation. Learn more about the project here
